Mary Kathleen Dickerson passed away on October 18, 2014, two months prior to her 93rd birthday. She was the third of 12 children, born to the late Roy J. Morris and Fontella House Morris. A devoted mother, known by her family as "Gran" and "G.G.," the great joy in her life was her family. Known in her neighborhood as "Kathy," she was an avid reader, and enjoyed crocheting and handcrafts. She had a strong passion and tender heart for animals, especially dogs. She loved them all - big and small. Kathy was a warm and gracious lady and family activities revolved around her. When she was healthy and strong, her energies were spent on others. Preceding her in death in addition to her parents are her husband, James T. Dickerson; her sisters, Louise, Pauline, and Clara; and her brothers, James, Leroy, Gordon, and Phil. For most of her life, Kathy was a resident of West Asheville. For the past 8½ years, she made her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Bill Creasman, of Leicester. She is survived by her son, J.T. Dickerson and wife Ruby, of Westhoff, TX; daughter, Joan Creasman and her husband Bill, of Leicester; five grandchildren, John Creasman (fiancée Tandace) and Jeremy Creasman (Carrie), of Leicester, Dee Dee Canion (Dick) of Cinco Ranch, TX, Debbie Chenevert (Kent) of Houston, TX, Denise Lambert (Justin) of Danbury, TX; and eight great-grandchildren, Will Creasman, of Leicester, Clayton Canion, Max, Emerson, and Drew Chenevert, Wyatt Gavin, and Ty Lambert; sisters, Helen, Betty, and Jean; brother, Jimmy; and sister-in-law, Mary Roberts. The family would like to express appreciation to Mrs. Josie Sluder who was her daily caregiver for many years. A graveside service will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Lewis Memorial Park. Her brother-in-law, the Rev. J.R. Warren, will officiate. At other times over the next few days, the family will be at 277 Jones Rd., in Leicester. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, 31 Glendale Ave., Asheville, NC 28803, or a charity of one's choosing. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.
