Mary Tom Bell Lance, 76, of Wesley Branch Rd., died Friday, July 1, 2011, at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center.
A native of Asheville, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Jeptha and Hilda Poore Bell. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Boone, and by a brother, Wendell Houck.
Mrs. Lance worked for Eaton-Cutler Hammer for 25 years. She was an active member of Sardis United Methodist Church and the UMW.
She is survived by her husband, Harold Lee Lance; sons Robert Thomas Lance and William Kenneth Lance and his wife, Brenda; three grandchildren, Amber Whiteside and her husband Whitey, Kenny Lance and Tommy Lance; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. John Erwin officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

we are so sorry to hear of Mary Tom’s passing. She was a very nice lady. I always enjoyed hearing her play the piano at church, and of course no one could make corn like she could.

Mary Tom was my Mother growing up when my Mother wasn’t around.

Just saw Mary’s passing in the paper. My deepest condolences are extended from my family to yours.
So sorry to hear of Tom’s passing. I worked at Eaton (Cuttler Hammer) for 11 years and Tom became a good friend. I’ve met you Harold a few times, don’t know if you remember. Sorry I didn’t get to family night or the funeral. My prayers are with you all.
