Mary Tom Bell Lance, 76, of Wesley Branch Rd., died Friday, July 1, 2011, at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center. A native of Asheville, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Jeptha and Hilda Poore Bell. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Boone, and by a brother, Wendell Houck. Mrs. Lance worked for Eaton-Cutler Hammer for 25 years. She was an active member of Sardis United Methodist Church and the UMW. She is survived by her husband, Harold Lee Lance; sons Robert Thomas Lance and William Kenneth Lance and his wife, Brenda; three grandchildren, Amber Whiteside and her husband Whitey, Kenny Lance and Tommy Lance; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. John Erwin officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to CarePartners Hospice/John F. Keever Solace Center, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
