Concord, NC - Mary Rhodes Ritchie, 88, of Concord, is celebrating her new body in Christ as of July 12, 2013. We will be celebrating and honoring her life at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian, Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at 11:00 AM with the Reverends Bobby Dees and Jonathan Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow at Bearwallow Cemetery in Gerton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 at the funeral home. She was born September 3, 1924 to the late Arthur Alexander and Stella Lyda Rhodes in Henderson County. After graduating from Edneyville High School in Edneyville, NC, she attended Women's College (now UNC-G) and received her BA degree in Business from Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory. She enjoyed an active church and community life while also being employed by Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services for 30+ years. Upon retirement, she and her husband Robert enjoyed many wonderful memories with family and friends, both in their retirement home in Gerton and at the family's home in Concord. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ritchie is preceded in death by her husband of fifty years Robert Frank Ritchie. She is survived by her children; Rosilyn Lynn Ritchie, Renee White, Rosemary Jones, Robin Linker, Risa Colberg and Robert Rhodes Ritchie; 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Rocky River Presbyterian Church, 7490 Rocky River Rd., Concord, NC 28025, Bearwallow Baptist Church P.O. Box 187, Gerton, NC 28735 or to Barnwell Baptist Church 610 Grant Mt. Rd., Hendersonville, NC 28792. Groce Funeral Home of Arden will be serving the Ritchie Family.

  3. To my cousins that lost their Mom. I remember how Aunt Mary would always greet me and talk to me in a way that made me feel special. She was always smiling and enjoyed life. You could feel the genuine love and care she had for people. She will be greatly missed. Y’all are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
