Mary Alice Silvey Funderud passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Pisgah Manor, after a period of declining health.
Mrs. Funderud was born in Canton, NC and lived most of her life in Asheville. She was the daughter of the late John W. and Isadora Wilson Silvey and step-daughter to the late Ethel Merrell Silvey. She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Funderud; sisters, Meta Merrell Pierce, Betty Jo Silvey Tuccori, Mae Merrell Trulove; brothers, John W. Silvey, Jr., and James Woodrow Merrell; grandson, James Michael Funderud; and great granddaughter, Lauren Nicole Funderud.
She is survived by her children, William O. Funderud (Linda) of Huntersville, NC, Donald O. Funderud, Sr. (Susan), of Asheville; 6 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; niece, Mary Louise Smith; great niece, Shelly Penland; nephews David Trulove and Tom Barnham, and a special cousin, William O. Silvey.
She worked in Retail for 38 years at Bon Marche, Winners and John Carroll's as a buyer and sales associate at William & Mary's of Hendersonville, NC
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Groce Funeral Home, Tunnel Road, with the Rev. Shelly Webb and Chaplain Brenda Lewis officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service with interment at Forest Lawn Chapel of Faith in Enka, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Oakley United Methodist Church, 607 Fairview Road, Asheville, NC, 28803, or to Hospice Care Partners, 68 Sweeten Creek Rd., Asheville, NC, 28803.
Special thanks are extended to the staff of Hospice Home Health Care and to the staff of Pisgah Manor Skilled Nursing Facility for the care and kindness Mary Alice received at home and at Pisgah Manor.

She truly was a lovely lady who loved the Lord and you and Bill and your families. Take heart in the fact that you provided great care for her and added quality to her life. My mom’s funeral was very beautiful, well done, the music fantastic and words of comfort to the family and friends. My mom loved her family very much and her friends as well. very special thanks to Hospice Home Health Care and to the staff at Pisgah Manor Skilled Nursing Facility for their dedication and love to our mom. her final song was ‘god be with you ’till we meet again’. So in closing thanks to all who gave us their love, thoughts and prayers during this time.
