Mattie Cole Earley, 94, of 270 Liberty Road, Candler, died Friday, March 8, 2002, at the home of her daughter. A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late William Ed and Nancy Hutchinson Cole. She was also preceded in death by her husband W. Harold Earley who died in 1958, two sisters, Loice Franklin and Areatha Harrell and a brother, Roy Cole. Mrs. Earley is survived by a daughter, Nancy Todd and her husband Norman of Candler; three grandsons, Alan Todd and his wife Carol of Dayton, TN, Nathan Todd and his wife Cynthia and Chris Todd and his wife Teresa, all of Candler; seven great-grandchildren, Logan, Bryan, Jonathan, Marc and Rachel Todd of Candler, Ronna Bunch and her husband Richard and Brittany Todd all of Dayton, TN; a great-great-granddaughter, Brandi Bunch of Dayton, TN; three sisters, Azalee Burton, Elveta Earley and her husband Clarence and Gretchen Long and her husband Dewight, all of Candler; sister-in-law, Eloise Cole Huffman and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 4:30 pm Sunday at Liberty Baptist Church where Mrs. Earley was a member. The Reverend Gene King will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 pm Saturday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and at other times will be at the home of Nancy Todd, 266 Liberty Road, Candler. The family would like to extend a special thank you to VHP care givers Rhonda Kuykendall and Ida Chandler. Memorials may be made to Liberty Baptist Church, 875 Monte Vista Road, Candler, NC 28715.
