Maude Vina Smith

Maude Vina Smith, 89, of New Haw Creek Road, Asheville, died Wednesday, October 11, 2006, at Mission Hospitals. A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Fernando and Nellie Meyers Smith and was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. Smith, who died in 2002. She was a member of Erwin Hills Baptist Church. Survivors include nine children and their spouses, James E. and Margie Smith of Asheville, Louise and Charles Stewart of Brevard, Calvin and Brenda Smith of Asheville, Gerladine McClure of Gastonia, Bobby Jean Clark of Weaverville, Carolyn and Jim Crowder of Asheville, Barbara and Arnold Keener of Hickory, Linda and Carroll Swayngim of Asheville and Connie and John Knight of Black Mountain; a brother, Carl Smith of Asheville; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 4:00 pm Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Cecil Hopps and Chris Swayngim officiating. Private burial will be at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service.
