Maxine Carland Crompton

Maxine Carland Crompton, 86, formerly of West Asheville, died Sunday, February 5, 2006, at Universal Health Care.
A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late John David and Nora Plemmons Carland. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carroll C. Crompton, who died in 1992; a son, Dale Crompton; three sisters, Helen LeDuke, Katherine Burtch and Martha Roache and three brothers, David, Melvin and Max Carland.
Mrs. Crompton was a nurse for 23 years in the office of Dr. Eugene Clayton. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she was active in the Women’s Circle, a member of the Asheville Garden Club and a volunteer at Aston Park Hospital.
Affectionately known as “Fugi” by her family, she is survived by two daughters, Marsha C. Bridges and her husband Jeff of Arden and Sharon C. Smith of Spartanburg; three grandchildren, Nicole Thompson and husband Bill, Deidre Hennecy and husband Brian and Amanda Long and husband Kelly; seven great-grandchildren, David James, Heath, Kendall and Kyle Thompson, Priscilla and Lydia Hennecy and Lizzie Long and a sister-in-law, Nell (Mrs. Max) Carland.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Rodney H. Hagans, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Cemetery.
Her family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm Tuesday prior to the service.

Marsha, I am so sorry to learn of the death of your dear Mother. It has been a long time since I have seen you, but my extended family that is still in Asheville keeps me informed when they see you.
I remember fondly your Mother as we grew up in West Asheville and at Trinity Church. Please know that I share in your loss and will lift you and your family up in prayer.

I know Maxine ad Mom are much better off now, no more sickness or problems. They are rejoiceing in their Lord’s arms now. But we still miss them.

We were both so very sorry to hear that your mom had past away. We both thought the world of Maxine and enjoyed getting to know her at Universal. She was a beautiful lady and oh how she loved music! You both have been such loving and supportive daughters. Your visits were always special to your mom. You and your families are in our thoughts and prayers.
