Asheville ~ Mollie Jo Greene died Friday, June 4, 2004, in an Asheville hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Greene was born July 22, 1911 in Texarkana, AK. She moved to Washington, D.C. in the late 1930’s where she spent over forty years working for the federal government. During her career, she worked for Arkansas Senator John L. McClellan. In 1953, Mrs. Greene was appointed by President Eisenhower as a member of the Hoover Commission on Organization of the Executive Branch of Government. Mrs. Greene also served on the House un-American Activities Committee with California Senator Chet Holifield. Upon retirement, she moved to Hot Springs, Ark., moving to Asheville in 1983. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Asheville. She is survived by her husband of twenty three years, Keller P. Greene; a stepdaughter, Janet McGlone and her husband, Jerry. She is also survived by two step-grandchildren, Jennifer and Ian McClone. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2004 in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with the Rev. Dr. Guy Sayles officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. The family request that flowers be omitted.
