Nancy Jordan Travis, 60, of Fairview, died on Monday, March 30, 2009, at the John F. Keever Hospice Center. A resident of Buncombe Co., Nancy was a daughter of Charles William and Evelyn Huntley Jordan, of Fairview. Nancy was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Brooks, of Suwanee, GA; sisters, Becky Holbert, Carol Shumbera, and Betty Butler, all of Fairview; grandchildren, Aaron Travis, and Shelby Brooks; and great-grandchildren, Sage and Scarlett Travis. A funeral service for Ms. Travis will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Jim Whitted and Randy Wood officiating. Interment will follow in the church's cemetery. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to CarePartners Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813, or to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, PO Box 1454, Fairview, NC 28730. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting with the arrangements.

  1. I can only imagine how beautiful the flowers around Nancy’s mansion must be! She did such a wonderful job at church decorating. Her special touches will be dearly missed. My toughts and prayers are with everyone. Its always good to know that Nancy is just waiting for the rest of us on the other side!

  4. Our son treated Nancy at MMH Radiation Therapy. He could never praise her enough for her courage.
    Our times with her at Little Pigs meant so much. She is a jewel gone to brighten up God’s Kingdom.

  6. I am so sorry to hear about your mother’s passing. Please know that your entire family will remain in my prayers.

  7. I was so saddened to hear of Nancy’s death. I worked with her at A-B Emblem for a couple of years and moved out to Fairview during that time, so Nancy & I would sometimes carpool together. I will always have fond memories of her.

    She is in a far better place now; please find comfort in knowing that.
