Nellie Norton Rector, 92, of Asheville, died Saturday, November 3, 2007. Mrs. Rector was born in Madison County and was a daughter of the late Henry and Carrie Lee Thomas Norton. She was married to Howard West Rector, who died in 1987, and was also preceded in death by brothers, Henry, Jr., Earl and Glenn Norton, and a sister, Grace Chandley. She was a member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Helen O’Kelley and her husband, Glenn, and Jean R. Gentry and her husband, Charlie, all of Asheville; three grandchildren, Renee W. Henderson and her husband, Steve, Duane Gentry and his wife, Kristy, and Donna Henderson and her husband, Tommy; five great-grandchildren, Marine Staff Sergeant Justin A. Wells, Candice L. Wells, Nicholas and Chloe Gentry and Taylor Henderson; four sisters, Rosa Clark, Erma Proffitt, Faye Ward, and Pearl Coker, and two brothers, Calvin and Bernard Norton. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Lomax. officiating. Burial will follow at Lewis Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted and appreciated, or memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 31 College Place, Suite D320, Asheville, NC 28801-2644.

  11. Jean and family, I remember taking care of your mother and father when they came into see Dr. Thrash for their appointments. They were always so full of life. The years with Dr.T were very special and his patients became very special to me. I think of them often. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
