Nellie Thompson McKinney, 86, of 9 Family Lane, Asheville, died Monday, August 28, 2006, at Pisgah Manor Health Care Center. A Buncombe County native, Mrs. McKinney was daughter of the late Leonard David and Fannie Leona Thompson. She was retired from American Enka Corp., and was a member of Inanda Baptist Church. Mrs. McKinney is survived by her husband of 68 years, Charles McKinney; four daughters, Frances Wilson and her late husband Claude, of Asheville, Wanda Ray and her husband Leon, of Weaverville, Judy Johnston and her husband Stanley, of Asheville, and Rachel Johnston and her husband Victor, also of Asheville; one sister, Myrtle Cox, of Hendersonville; 11 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Shelton officiating. Interment will follow at Inanda Baptist Church Cemetery. Her family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Frances Wilson at 26 Family Lane, Asheville.
