Oleta M. Ponder

Oleta McDevitt Ponder, 91, formerly of 330 Deaverview Road, Asheville, died Saturday, September 15, 2007, at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center. Mrs. Ponder was born in Virginia and was a daughter of the late Pinkney and Alpha Worley McDevitt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Garfield Leonard Ponder, a sister, Cornelia Joyner, and brothers, Norman and Ralph McDevitt. Mrs. Ponder worked at Beacon Manufacturing Company for 33 years and she attended the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She is survived by two sons, Leonard Ponder of Columbia, MD and David Ponder of Asheville; three sisters, Viola Ramsey of Marshall, Lillian Hatley of Chattanooga, TN, and Imogene Blow of Rock Hill, SC; two brothers, Edwin McDevitt of Asheville and Oscar McDevitt of Marshall; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Family and friends may gather at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday with a graveside service scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Ashelawn Gardens.
