Olive Perrigo Roda

Asheville – Olive P. Roda, 103 of the Deerfield Retirement Community, died Monday, November 22, 2010. Mrs. Roda was born December 20, 1906 in Rochester, NY. Her family soon moved to Pittsford, a small village suburb. After her graduation from high school, she went to Mount Holyoke College where she earned a B.A. Degree in the Class of 1928. She taught in the Pittsford High School for several years. In 1932 she married Richard Roda and in 1964 the Rodas moved to Asheville where Taylor Instrument was building a new plant. After Mr. Roda retired, they moved to Crowfields, where he died in 1987. The Deerfield Community became Mrs. Roda's final home in December 1999. Mrs. Roda leaves her three children and their spouses, Peter L. Roda and his wife, Jane, Trudy Forward and her husband, Larry, and Lynn Smith and her husband, Canie; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Friday in the Deerfield Health Care Chapel conducted by the Reverend Anita Sayles. A private family interment will be in Calvary Churchyard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Deerfield Employee Fund. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
