Ora Lee Nesbitt

Ora Lee Nesbitt, 97, of Fairview, died Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at Flesher’s Fairview Health Care. Miss Nesbitt was born April 25, 1909, in Fairview and was the daughter of the late Thomas and Ada Garrison Nesbitt. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Nesbitt Sales and brothers, Ed, Paul and Gordon. A life-long resident of Fairview, she graduated from Fairview High School in 1926 and completed her education at Cullowhee State Normal School and Asheville Normal Teachers College, graduating in 1930. She taught elementary grades at Smithfield, NC, from 1930-1936. She returned to Fairview Elementary School where she taught second grade for the ramainder of her 41 year teaching career, retiring in 1970. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church since childhood. Miss Nesbitt is survived by five nieces, Clara Sales of Fairview, Jean Sales Miller of Fairview, Phyllis Sales Lyda of Athens, GA, Edwina Nesbitt Newell of Dayton, OH and Margaret Nesbitt Brogan of Carrollton, OH; two nephews, Clark Sales and Henry Sales, both of Fairview; a sister-in-law, Janet Nesbitt of Canton, OH and three generations of grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Funeral services will be 7:00 pm Thursday in the Long Shoals chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Robert Pitzer and Steve Hensley officiating. Her family will greet friends following the service. Burial will be 9:30 am Friday at Cane Creek Cemetery.
