Philip Franklin, 58, of 667 Sand Hill Road, Asheville, died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at the VA Medical Center. Mr. Franklin was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Orville Gary and Anna Rochester Franklin. He served in the Air Force for four years, the Navy two years and Army fourteen years and was a member of VFW Post 891. He was employed as the construction project manager for Memorial Mission Hospital. Surviving are his wife, Ima Jean Fox Franklin; one daughter, Deborah Flinn of Lathrop, Missouri; four sons, Kevin C. Franklin, Christian A. Franklin, Philip “Chuck” Franklin, and William Franklin, all of Asheville; one sister, Jane Gibson of Cleveland, NC; three brothers, Gary Franklin of Greenville, TN and John W. Franklin and Jesse R. Franklin of Asheville; and eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Friday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Barry Fisher and Cecil Fox officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Thursday at the funeral home and request that memorials be made to South Buncombe Baptist Church Building Fund, 370 Mills Gap Road, Asheville, NC 28803.
