Phoebe King Brown

Phoebe King Brown, 99, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at Elderberry Health Care, Marshall.

A loving mother, grandma, great-grandma and great-great-grandma, Phoebe was born October 6, 1922 and was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County. She was the daughter of the late Talbert and Mae Surrett King. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William G. “Buster” Brown, grandson, Billy Brown, sons-in-law, Burton Reeves, Kenneth Worley and Robert Freeman, and siblings, Ora, Oliver, Geneva, Jess, Julie, Pearl, Bertha, Dorothy and Ruby.

She attended Ebenezer and Big Sandy Churches. She loved going to all the church services at Elderberry when she was able, and helping all the residents at Elderberry when her health permitted.

She is survived by her son, William G. “Junior” Brown, Jr. (Silba); daughters, Shirley Reeves and Hazel Worley Freeman; grandchildren, Ricky Worley, Mylinda Garrett (Roger), Tamira Reeves, Greg Worley (Megan) and Teresa Kent (Jerry); great-granddaughters, Holly and Ashley Brown; great-grandsons, Wes, Evan and Cameron Worley, Nathanael Kent and Ty Garrett; great-great-grandsons, Hunter and Hayden Worley; sister-in-law, Bashie King; and several nieces and nephews.

We want to thank Elderberry Health Care for their loving care of our mother and grandmother.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 25, in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with Pastor Ricky Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow at Big Sandy United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
