Porter Prelo Scroggs, 88, of Candler, died Saturday, August 25, 2007, at John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center.
A native of Raybun County, GA, he was a son of the late Virgil C. and Hattie McCoy Scroggs. An Army veteran of WW II, he was retired from American Enka and a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Lois Crunkleton Scroggs; two daughters, Sandra Hardin and her husband, Stamey, of High Point, and Glenda Metcalf and partner Brent Walker of Arden; three grandchildren, Marc Metcalf and his fiancee, Michele, of Arden, Eric Metcalf and his wife, Lori, of Shelby, and Whitney Hardin of High Point; two great-grandchildren, Christopher Barrett and Sophie Metcalf; two sisters, Cleo Bates and her husband, Charles, of Griffin, GA and Frances Hill of Clarkesville, GA; one brother, Bobby Scroggs and his wife, Lucia, of Clarkesville and three special men he considered sons, Neil, Henry and Glenn Thompson. Mr. Scroggs was preceded in death by sisters Lois and Carolyn and a brother, Russell, all of Georgia.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Mary Caldwell and Todd Cole officiating. Burial will follow at Hice Hill Cemetery.
His family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
