Ralph Daniel Sluder, Jr., 63, of 41 Owenby Cove Road, Asheville, died Saturday, June 9, 2012, at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center. Mr. Sluder was born in Buncombe County and was a son of Barbara Hawkins Sluder of Leicester and the late R. Daniel Sluder, Sr. He was an Army veteran and attended Ecclessia Baptist Church. Mr. Sluder worked as a millwright and machine maintenance specialist at several businesses, including Cranston Print Works, Ecusta, and Blue Ridge Paper. He is survived by his wife, Susan Diane White Sluder; a daughter, Karen Filip (Anthony); two sons, Mark Sluder (Emily), and Matt Sluder (Beth); grandchildren, Patrick and Kyle O'Kelley; Lucas, Charlie, Emma, and Hayden Sluder; and one sister, Annie Lee Cole. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Stan Dotson and Steven Norris officiating. Burial will follow at Gashes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cuban Ministry of Ecclesia Baptist, P.O. Box 2365, Fairview, N.C., 28730.

  1. What a priviledge I have been granted to have a great friend in Ralph. He was an encourager to me at a time I needed encouraging and I will always be thankful we were able to be close. RIP my friend and may God bless you Susie and your family and your church family at Ecclesia as we grieve and celebrate with you.

    No words can convey how deep my heart aches for you, Susie, and the rest of the family. I did not know Ralph very well, but you are a fine woman, so he must have been a wonderful father. I know he saw many friends and family when he got to heaven and he is hoping that you will not cry for too long. He feels no more pain. I know that is of no comfort now, but I hope it will be soon. I love you.

  4. Susie and family, It was our great pleasure to know and love Ralph. He was a faithful, encouraging and fun friend!He was truely one of a kind and will be missed by many. We know he is in the arms of Jesus.Perhaps He will make him a chief navigator. He was ours when we went on the too few little trips we took and he was good at it!
