Rebecca Rose Gifford Mustin

June 10, 1947 ~ October 8, 2014
Resided in:
Asheville, NC
Rebecca, or Becca, as friends and family knew her, was born in Jellico, Tennessee, but spent her childhood in Biloxi Mississippi. She spent her working years in Atlanta, Georgia, where she worked in Georgia State government, primarily for the Department of Transportation as an environmental specialist for transportation projects. She held a degree in English Literature from Georgia State University. She was an avid outdoors person, and spent much of her recreational time sailing, canoeing, hiking, and camping.
In 1995 she met Bob Mustin, a transportation administrator for the Georgia Department of Transportation, and in 1996 they married. They spent much of their recreational time prior to retirement traveling and enjoying outdoor activities, as well as their newfound home life. Following her retirement in 2001, she and Bob moved to Asheville, North Carolina. When not enjoying life in the Blue Ridge Mountains, they continued to travel. She was an accomplished weaver, and her scarves, shawls, and placemats have found homes across the United States.
Becca passed away after a long struggle with cancer. She is survived by her husband, her sister, Jeannie Rose Prendergast, a niece, Jena Prendergast Weeter, and a nephew, John Prendergast.
In lieu of flowers, cards, or gifts, the family asks that those wishing to honor Becca's life and passing spend a day with someone currently suffering from cancer.
A celebratory service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue. Private interment will follow at Green Hills Cemetery.
Bob: Ann and I are thinking about you and wishing comfort and peace for you, now and in coming days. Ed
Dear Bob,
I am one of Becca’s friends from the gaming world. We just learned of her passing last night and were so very saddened. We have shed some tears, but all of us here who ‘knew’ her from gaming have smiled some, too, because she was such a funny, enthusiastic, sweet spirit. Please know that she brought joy to us, and caring, and wonderful, warm memories, and we will never forget her.
Sincerely,
Mollie (Meredith Oakley)
