Rebecca Wetmore Shuford Nesbitt, 93, died February 3, 2005 at Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community. Born at Christ School in Arden on June 17, 1911, she was a lifetime resident and native of the area. The daughter of the late Benjamin La Fayette and Meta Souther Shuford. She had a lifetime affiliation with Christ School, a private Episcopal school. She taught school at Valley Springs for 32 years, retiring in 1972. She was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church in Fletcher where she was a choir member for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Marvin Nesbitt in 1993. She is survived by two sons, Steve Nesbitt of Asheville, Jerry Nesbitt of Salem, SC; a daughter, Sheila Mickey of Denver, NC; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. A private family burial will precede the funeral service. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2005 at 2:00 pm at Calvary Episcopal Church, Fletcher with the Rev. Victor Mansfield and Rev. Charles Furlow officiating. The family will receive friends at the church parish house immediately after the service. I know you are not suffering any more,& are at rest in a beautiful place, where their is always peace & no suffering. Thanks for our friendship for all these years, We have had some good times.     My Mom called me this morning to tell me about your Mom’s passing. Some of my earliest memories are of the Nesbitts and the Hendersons and those memories have continued down the years. Another angel in heaven as another part of our shared heritage slips away.     Mrs. Nesbitt was my 2nd grade teacher at Valley Springs over 30 years ago. I remember her and her love for art in the classroom. As a teacher myself, I can only hope to be the kind of teacher that children remember so fondly after such a long time. My condolences to your family.
