Reita Caroline Bennett, 58, of Asheville, died Saturday, October 4, 2008 at her residence. A native of Henderson County, she was a daughter of James Barnwell of Mosheim, TN and of Joye Thompson Barnwell of Hendersonville. She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Donovan Charles Bennett; five daughters, Rene McCall of Asheville, Donieca Arrowood of Weaverville, Katrina Petrey of Asheville, Diane Hampton of Leicester and Brenda Hipp of Landrum, SC; two sons, Charles Bennett of Canton and Bradley Bennett of Candler; a brother, Clifton Barnwell of Etowah; a sister, Donna Darnell of Hendersonville; thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Mimi Page Foundation, 1420 N. Fork Road, Black Mountain, NC 28711-2514 or to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

    My deepest sympathy to all the family in the loss of Reita. She is not suffering any more and for that we all can be thankful. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this most difficult time.
    I worked with Reita for a short time at Cancer Care as a co-transcriptionist. About the third day I was there she wanted my lighthouse lamp. I went and bought her one. She was so happy with that, as you well know she loved lighthouse memorabilia.

  6. Donovan, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time. I am sorry for your loss. I worked with Reita at Cancer Care in the transcription department and at Mission Hospital 30 years ago. She was so sweet to knit baby blankets for babies. I still have the one she knitted for my oldest daughter 30 years ago! It will always be special to me.

  9. Dear Donovan, You and Reita have been such good neighbors. I always enjoyed talking with her; there was just never enough time. I am looking forward to the day when we will be neighbors again in a land where time will be no more. Your family is in my prayers.

    I was so very sorry to hear about Reita, I know it is a terrible time for all of you. I am sorry that I lost touch with Reita, she was a really good friend to me and my s and we will miss her very much. It was a shock last week to hear she was so sick and I am sorry I did not know about this sooner. She will be missed by many people, she was always so willing to go that extra mile for anyone in need of help. She will be our guardian angel looking down on us. Our families were close when all the kids were small, but time floated us away. You all will always be in my thoughts and prayers.

    I was so deeply saddened and shocked when I heard of your loss yesterday. We never expect to lose the person who is the strongest link in our family. You, your mom and dad, Brad, Renee, and Donieca were like a second family to me. To this day I know not to ‘smack’ my gum, thanks to Reita. Please know that you guys are in my prayers.

  13. Brad, we were so sorry hear of your mother’s passing. I hope you remember me and my family; Jo from Holiday Inn and my kids Jimmy, Albert, Sherri, and Angie. You spent a lot of time at our house in Rolling Oaks Estates. We all loved you very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. When prayers go up, blessings come down. I’m so sorry we lost touch but maybe we can find each other again. Sherri sends her love and prayers. I know how much you will miss youe mother, but she is happy in the arms of the Lord. And she will always be with all of you in the future forever.

    I attended High School with Reita and she was a good friend. Later I knew her again through her transcription work at Pardee Hospital. I always felt that Reita was a good person and a good friend. Know that folks are thinking of you and praying for you and your family. God Bless.

    I was in total shock when I was told of losing my cousin. I still cannot believe that she is not in earthly form. Although, whatever pain she had , she is no longer in pain. I am most elated about the fact that she meet all our other relatives, and is walking in Heaven beside Our Lord, Jesus Christ. Oh what blessing that is!!!
    Reita, I will surely miss you. You know I always wanted to attend E. Henderson HS like you and Donna. But,I do have the one great memeory of you and I…our collaboration on Uncle Bill’s and Aunt Frances’ 50th Wedding Anniversary. Thank-you for the memory.
    You have left a hole in all our hearts,with your passing. Because, you deeply touched the hearts of all those you came in contact with.
