Richard Allen Burgher, 68, died of heart failure July 24, 2016.
Mr. Burgher was a native of St. Louis, a former resident of coastal Florida, and had lived in Asheville since 1984. He was an artistic person and a talented photographer who took large format, black and white pictures of The Thomas Wolfe Home which were used in The Wolfe calendar.
He served in the Navy in Theatre during wartime Vietnam at the Gulf of Tonkin.
Surviving are his wife, Gail Gregory; daughters Janice and Pamela; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at Riverside Cemetery.
Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.

My heart is broken, beyond words. Having only known my Dad for a few years, those years were so valuable to me. With our similarities, you would have thought we had never been apart for 30+ years. I will forever be grateful for the years we were in contact. I always felt understood and loved, even without having to speak. Knowing I will not be able to have him to talk to any longer, is one of the hardest things I have had to deal with, and my life has had plenty of hard times to face. My not being there for the service to say goodbye, in no way means that I will not be there in spirit and in grief with you. I will miss my Daddy, so very much.
