Richard Dale Smith, 78, passed away Monday, February 28, 2022 at Mission Hospital.

Mr. Smith was born in Paducah, Kentucky to the late John J. and Ethel Louise Hutchinson Smith. He was also preceded in death his son, Jeffrey Smith; four sisters and two brothers.

Richard was a “Jack of all Trades” handyman. He could build or fix anything and he loved helping others any chance he could. He retired from Kearfott Corporation in Black Mountain as a Senior Buyer. He was a major history buff and he loved his wife and spending time with family and will be dearly missed.

Richard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alice Fay Mills Smith; a daughter, Alissa Franks (David J. Franks); daughter-in-law, Cyndi Smith; grandchildren, Zachary Dylan Nelson, Trevor David Franks, Chase Richard Franks, Jerrica Smith, Jacob Richard Smith, Silas Trey Smith, Moses Smith and Miriam Smith; guardian of Rick Anthony Rodriguez and a brother, Franklin D. Smith.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022 at 3:00 pm at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with Pastor Lonnie Ray officiating. Burial will follow at Cane Creek Cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1-3 at the funeral home.
