Robert "Burder" Reeves, 74, of 49 Reeves Home Place, Leicester, died on Thursday, May 7, 2009, at his residence. A native of Madison Co., Mr. Reeves was the son of the late Roscoe and Dewey Treadway Reeves. A graduate of Leicester High School, Mr. Reeves worked as a beef cattle and tobacco farmer. He was a past board member of the TVA Farm Family, and the Carolina Farm Credit, and a past member of the WNC Beef Cattle Commission. He was also a strong supporter of FFA and 4-H. He was a U.S. Army veteran, and member of Spring Creek United Methodist Church. Mr. Reeves is survived by his wife of 48 years, Betty Ann Fleming Reeves; daughters, Robin Reeves Singleton, of Leicester, and Neal Ann Reeves and husband Fernando Bautista, of Swannanoa; grandchildren, Reeves Singleton, Roscoe Reeves and Anna Lynn Reeves; aunt, Shirley Treadway; several cousins; and special buddy, Walter Higgins. A memorial service for Mr. Reeves will be at 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with the Revs. Richard Kinsland, Bobby Fox, Dick and Diane Campbell, and Dennis Brown officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Special thanks to CarePartners, to the staff and nurses at Courtyard Nursing Facility, and to Cindy Reeves for their care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Little Sandy Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Faye Revis, 277 Martin Branch Rd., Leicester, NC 28748, to the Leicester Volunteer Fire Department, 2852 New Leicester Highway, Leicester, NC 28748, or to a charity of one's choice.
