Fletcher – Robert Franklin “Bob” Jackson, born November 7, 1936, died September 10, 2005. Mr. Jackson was a native of Henderson County. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Herman and Mable Lance Jackson and his brother, Wade Hampton. Mr. Jackson is survived by his daughters, Rebecca Lorena and Elizabeth Gail. Also surviving are grandchildren, Heather Beal, Ashley Jones, Amanda and Ashton Rutherford, one great grandchild, Savannah Beal; nieces, Kathy Gallagher and Wendy Jackson; nephews, Tommy and Buddy and their children, Jeff, Dalton, Taylor, Justin, Codie and Bryce; along with dear friends, Ken, Margaret and Brenda and special friend, Betty. Mr. Jackson was a veteran of the cease fire in Korea and also served his country during the occupation of Germany as a Staff Sergeant. Mr. Jackson resided in Greensboro, NC for many years where he was employed by Burlington Industries for 20 years and retired from NC A&T State University after 9 years of service. Before his death he returned to Henderson County and the mountains he loved. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian conducted by the Rev. Sherman Middleton. Interment will be in Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina Relief.

  5. I loved fishing with your Dad when we were kids. He tried to teach Becky and I how to row a boat one time and we had the anchor down all the way across the lake. When he realized that he said we did a good job. He loved spending time with us girls and he had lots of patience when it came to fishing. Sometimes he didn’t get to fish because he was too busy baiting hooks and untangling lines for us.
