Robert J. Nicklaw, 71, of Fletcher, died Tuesday, February 16, 1999, in a local health  care facility.

A native of Schenectady, NY, he was the son of the late Ralph A. and Dorothea Johann Nicklaw.  He was a third generation quality control engineer with General Electric, retiring in 1986 after 36 years service.  He was a member of the A.S.Q.C., the Professional Engineers Society, and the G.E. Retirees.  He was a Navy veteran of WW II, serving on the USS Independence and was a member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Sasenbury Nicklaw;  four daughters, Kathleen Sapp, Sherry L. Nicklaw, Tracy Kane, and Michelle Bergan;  two sons, Christopher J. Nicklaw and Jeffrey M. Nicklaw;  and 14 grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am Friday at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, with burial at Calvary Churchyard.

Memorials may be made to St. Barnabas Catholic Church Building Fund, 109 Crescent Hill Drive, Arden, NC 28704, or to Fleshers Fairview Health Care Fund, 3016 Cane Creek Road, Fairview, NC 28730.

Mr. Nicklaw will remain at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian until being taken to the church Thursday evening.

  2. Fond memories of the Nicklaws in Syracuse.Lived right across from us on Plymouth Drive.
    Loved Kathy when I was in grade school.

      Just read your note that you left with my father’s obituary. I do remember those days in Eastwood, Syracuse with our families. As I recall 18 children between to families relocated to Huntsville, AL and Ormond Beach, FL. that street block in a single year.
