Robert Jack Ingram, 84, of Candler, died Thursday, June 24, 2021.

A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Horace and Juniata Voorheis Ingram. Jack was also preceded in death by one son, Robert Layne Ingram, who died in 1991.

Jack was a 5-time NASCAR National Champion who was inducted into the NASCAR Hall Of Fame in 2014.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Aline Cole Ingram; two daughters, Cynthia Hensley (Doug) and Ingrid Jones (Brandon), both of Hendersonville; two brothers, Larry Ingram of Candler and Joel Ingram of Platteville, WI; seven grandchildren, Justin, Jackson, Christopher, Evan, Allison, Anthony and Jack Kelly; eight great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:45 AM on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at All Saints Anglican Church in Mills River with Father Erich Zwingert officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM. Burial will be private, but a public celebration of Jack’s professional career is being planned and will be held in the near future.

In lieu of flowers, the family graciously asks that you consider making a contribution to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association (apdaparkinson.org).

 Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.

  24. Sorry for your loss. Jack will be missed in the racing world. He always put up a fight on the track when we raced against each other. The racing community will morn this loss for a long time. Donation was make in his memory.

  25. I grew up watching Jack Ingram race at New Asheville Speedway and realized at an early age his toughness as a competitor. Then when I began covering him I learned more about Jack Ingram, the man, and his family. After he retired, we always enjoyed talking with each other at NASCAR functions. NASCAR has lost someone who played an instrumental role in its history, but his accomplishments will always be an inspiration to those aspiring to a racing career.

We are going to miss you Jack,I remember as a kid riding my bike up to your shop and you letting me sit in your car and as I had grown just going by and sitting with you and watching the news on the tv it was special for me because since the 80s when i had rode my bike to your shop and hanging out with you till the last time I seen you you was one of my hero’s you where my friend and I will always have that in my heart I love you and will one day see you in Heaven you will be missed Jack and you will always be in my heart, you will always be a legend and the Iron man .my prayers go out to the Ingram family love you all and God bless
