Roberta Buckner “Bobbie” Garren, 78, died Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at the Oaks of Sweeten Creek. Mrs. Garren was born in Henderson County and was a daughter of the late Robert Osborne Buckner and Birda Israel Buckner. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Olen Garren, who died November 19, 1996, and by a son, Michael LeRoy Garren, who died July 21, 1990. Mrs. Garren was retired from Eaton Corporation and was a charter member of the Hoopers Creek Community Center. She was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are her son, Blaine Garren and his wife, Diana, of Floral City, FL; her daughter-in-law, Patricia Garren of Fletcher and her sister, Flora B. Barnwell of Fletcher. Also surviving are five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, whom she loved, admired and cherished. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Shepherd Memorial Park with the Rev. Bobbie Arrowood officiating. Her family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and suggest that memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 31 College Place, Suite D-320, Asheville, NC 28801, or to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
