Mr. King was a native of Yancey County and was a son of the late William Marion and Margaret Cordelia Robinson. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Bertha McGraw and Willie Harris.
He was an Army veteran of WW II and retired after 36 years as an electrician with the VA Medical Center, Oteen. He was also retired from the Naval Reserve with 30 years service.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara Parker King; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and David Robinson of Fairview and Joye and Tim Wilson of Candler; three sons and daughters-in-law, Roy R. and Gloria King and David R. and Nancy King of Asheville and Richard and Bonnie King of Weaverville; one sister, Pauline Harris of Fletcher; two brothers, Clayton King and Eugene King of Asheville; twelve grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a special friend for many years, Alvis Merrill.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Sunday at Victory Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Revs. Larry Sprinkle and Don Austin officiating. Burial will be at Pisgah View Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Allen Austin, Randy Bryson, Christian King, Dennie Perez, Kenny Austin, and Joey Parker. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Fervent Sunday School Class.
His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Saturday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue where Mr. King will remain until being placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 16, Asheville, NC 28802. Military rites will provided the Asheville naval reserve.
