Ruth Evelyn Allen

Ruth Evelyn Allen, 86, of 69 East Street, Asheville, died Thursday, December 12, 2002, in an Asheville nursing center. Mrs. Allen was born in Yancey County and was a daughter of the late Henry Clay and Amanda McMahan Ball. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Mack Allen, a daughter Louise Allen, two sons Curtis Lee Allen and Paul Allen, a sister Grace Pendleton and a brother Samuel Ball. She is survived by a daughter Mary Evelyn Shipman of Asheville, a sister Clela Hensley of Burnsville, three grandchildren Larry, Robert and Andy Shipman and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm Sunday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Hartsell McCurry and Terry Allen officiating. Interment will be at Banks Creek Cemetery near Burnsville. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home 30 minutes prior to the service and at other times will be at Mary Shipman’s home, 69 East Street.
