Ruth Williams Laughter, 101, of Asheville, died Friday, October 1, 2010 at the St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native of Henderson County, she was a daughter of the late Jay Burt Williams and Jennie Maxwell Williams. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Claude Laughter as well as four brothers. Ruth was a devoted Christian and when her health allowed, she attended Pole Creek Baptist Church. She graduated from Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, GA where she became an English teacher. She was an active supporter of the college throughout her adult life. Most knew her from working at the family business, Broadview Gulf, in Oakley and being the manager at Biltmore Fabrics. She is survived by her son, John Maxwell Laughter and his significant other, Donna Temple, of Asheville; two grandchildren, John Michael Laughter and Jamee Laughter, both of Asheville, as well as several special nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, October 4, 2010 at Shepherd Memorial Park with Reverend Dennis Thurman officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in Ruth�s memory to a charity of one�s own choice.

    I am sorry to hear about your mother’s passing. She was a special person in my life from the very beginning. I was born while my mother and daddy were living behind your mother and daddy. So I guess my life started with your parents’ right there.
    Of course going to the station everyday was just a part of my childhood and very good memories are still in my mind. Know that she will be missed and always loved by many.
