Samuel Turner Stevens, 74, of 266 Old County Home Road, Asheville, died Friday, October 15, 1999.

Mr. Stevens was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Samuel B. and Tessie Turner Stevens.  He attended Asheville-Biltmore Junior College, Mars Hill College and UNC-Chapel Hill and was an Air Force veteran of WW II.

As a gifted Master Craftsman, he made stringed
instruments of many kinds.  He was a published author and recording artist and was a member of Music Makers Relief Foundation, Inc.

He is survived by two sisters, Mary Stevens Bradley of
Asheville and Florence Stevens Kerr of Winston-Salem and eight nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Thursday in the Patton
Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. H.D. Houck officiating.  Burial will be in the
Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain.

His family will receive friends from 7 - 8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
