Sarah Elizabeth Whittington

sarah whittington
Sarah Whittington, 81 of Asheville went to be with her Lord Jesus peacefully at her home on Friday, April 28, 2017. A native of Rockingham County, she is survived by her son Tom Whittington (Sherri) of Greenville SC, her sister's husband James Dillard of Williamsburg VA, plus numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was the daughter of the late Tom and Anice Smothers. Sarah loved her flowers, birds and sending cards to everyone she knew. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and her memorial service will be held in their Chapel on Sunday, May 7 at 2:30 PM. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to either the Ladies Ministry at Trinity Baptist Church, 216 Shelburne Road, Asheville, NC 28806 or her beloved 106.9/The Light radio station where she was an avid fundraiser. Their address is PO Box 159, Black Mountain, NC 28711. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.

  3. Aunt Sarah was so special to us at The Light! She was such a faithful volunteer and we were so grateful to have her as a part of the team. We are praying for you during this time but rejoicing that she is with the Lord and that we will see her again!

  4. I’m so sorry to hear of Aunt Sarah’s passing. She was a wonderful Christian lady who loved us all, here at 106.9 the Light. We appreciated her very much when she would come to the station to answer the phones during our fundraisers. We will deeply miss her. My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time. May God put His loving arms around you and give you all comfort and peace.

  5. Precious Aunt Sarah… I’m trying hard to rejoice over your Homegoing, but oh mercy, am I going to miss you. What a treasure you were… I’ve spent the afternoon looking through the many, many cards you’ve sent to me throughout the years, rereading all those loving messages. Each time my birthday or a holiday approached, I knew I’d open my mailbox to find a card from you. Everyone needs someone in their life who expresses complete, unconditional love, and you were that person for me. You were much more than just a volunteer at the radio station… you were family to us.
My prayers are with each person who loved Sarah, asking God’s comforting presence.
