Sarah McDowell Yarbrough, 79, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, December 12, 2002, in a local hospital.
Born on August 29, 1923, to the late Rufus and Kate Eubanks McDowell, Sarah grew up in Spartanburg County, SC. She was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church. Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Albert Yarbrough, who died in 1997.
Sarah left her nurse’s training when she married Claude in 1942. Together for 55 years, the couple lived in both Central Florida and Western North Carolina. Sarah spent most of her days working alongside her husband in his real estate developments. Her family was her life. For someone so small in stature, Sarah had such a big heart.
Mrs. Yarbrough is survived by her son, Chris Yarbrough of Old Fort; her daughter, Mary Alice Frost of Asheville and three granddaughters, Katherine Yarbrough, Elisabeth Frost and Sarah Kate Frost.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. James H. Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 am prior to the service.
Graveside services will be conducted by the Rev. Edwin Olson, Jr. at 3:00 pm Monday at Evergreen Memorial Park in Landrum, SC.

Dear Chris & Mary Alice & Families,
We were so saddened to hear about your mother. We, along with the rest of the Autrey family, thought highly of her.
Although it has been many years, we still think fondly of Claude & Sarah. The Yarbrough’s & Autrey’s shared many cherished memories together.
Now Heaven can rejoice in that sweet smile and loving spirit that Sarah so readily displayed to those around her.
