Resided in: Asheville, NC

Sheila Ballard Glenn passed away on July 19th in Asheville, North Carolina. She was born in Greensboro, NC on April 23rd, 1967 to Sandra Harlan and Johnny Ballard, Sr. Sheila grew up with siblings Johnny Ballard, Jr., Sherry Ballard, and Victor Alterizio. She attended high school in South Florida and graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a bachelor’s degree and became a Registered Nurse. Sheila embraced her nursing career where her gift of kindness and caring touched many lives.

She met the love of her life, Andrew Blair Glenn through her stepfather Joe Imbriale who boldly pointed out Blair to Sheila in front of a crowded room at a Lighthouse Point Fishing Club function. At the time, Sheila was very embarrassed, but she unknowingly found her soulmate. They began dating and their lives together blossomed with their time spent boating, fishing, relaxing at the beach, and socializing with their great group of friends. They were married in 1997 and settled in Pompano Beach. Blair and Sheila loved traveling with Rotary International including unique trips to Canada, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong.

Together they welcomed Harlan and Sara, their greatest gifts and beautiful reflections of Sheila and Blair. As a family they enjoyed endless adventures including offshore fishing, Disney Cruises, skiing in Tahoe, and spur of the moment explorations of the United States. The Hillsboro Club became their summer home where they enjoyed making memories with family and friends on the beach, in the water, on the courts and in the restaurants. Another family favorite was to jump in the car and road-trip to Miami for dining and shopping.

Sheila’s top priority was her family. Whether she was out power-shopping with Sara, engaging in heartfelt conversations with Harlan or enjoying dinners at La Bamba with Blair, she was at her happiest. Sheila’s beautiful smile and delightful laughter were extremely contagious and always lifted the spirits of anyone around her. She was an avid reader, a social tennis player, and a competitive Mexican Train player all the while laughing and sharing her wit and stories. She enjoyed the reward of volunteering with the Children’s Home Society, the Pompano Fishing Rodeo, and the Pompano Seafood Festival.

The Glenns loved their many friends and family in South Florida, but decided to return to North Carolina in 2015. Sheila embraced her roles as Soccer Mom and Tennis Mom to Sara and Harlan, as she became their biggest fan and loudest cheerleader. As longtime members of the Biltmore, they spent many hours on the grounds with a camera creating treasured memories and shared their love of the property when friends were in town. Sheila was adventurous in life and known to travel several hours to try a new restaurant, check out a new store or sale, or make an impromptu visit to her Florida friends. She loved to share her backyard photos of chickens, bears, raccoons, and especially fall and winter landscapes.

Her life was too short but full and beautiful.

Sheila is survived by her husband Blair, children Harlan and Sara, Papa and Nana (father Johnny and stepmother Terry), mother Sandra, Papa Joey (stepfather Joe), siblings Johnny, Sherry, Victor (Penny), and nephews: Victor, Jacob, Daniel and Josh. She was predeceased by her sister-in-law, Michelle Ballard.
