Asheville – Shirley Ann Cole, 65, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at The Laurels of Summit Ridge. Shirley was born in Buncombe County to the late Snowden and Annie Quinn Cole and was a member of Reynolds Baptist Church. She is survived by her four sisters, Emma Lee Bucklew and her husband, Roger, Rita Lynn Cole, Nadine Parham and her husband, Tommy and Snowdena Scott; a brother, Sam Cole and his wife, Judy and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held Friday, January 6, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with Reverend Bobby Smith and Chaplain Ken Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in Pisgah View Memorial Park in Candler. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 5, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Laurels of Summit Ridge, 100 Riceville Road, Asheville, NC 28805 or Care Partners Hospice, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813 or Reynolds Baptist Church, 520 Rose Hill Road, Asheville, NC 28803.

    I know that, when I last talked with Emily, you were all anticipating this sad day, but I also know that, when it happens, there is still much sadness. I shall miss seeing Shirley and all of you up at the Laurels when I visit my mom. Shirley knew how lucky she was to have such a wonderful family. I admire how you were always there for her.

    We are sorry to hear about Shirley Ann. She was a sweetie and I know you will miss her. I remember one day after school we were going somewhere and your mom had told you to do something and Shirley Ann told us to go ahead that she would do it. That was so sweet.
