  6. The first time I met Shirley, I said to her, “Hello, Mrs. Israel,” and she burst out laughing. She said no one called her that, but that I could call her husband “Mr. Shirley” if I wanted. I was 13 years old and a freshman at Clyde A. Erwin High School.

That night, I went to my first football game ever, and Teresa taught me all about the game. I stayed overnight, and was astonished to wake up to see Shirley making biscuits and gravy in the morning. I had never seen anyone make gravy in the morning! I remember she told me, “You really ARE from New York, aren’t you?” I remember her laugh, and the way her eyes twinkled when she did it. I remember that she was tough, and proud, and very, very smart. I will miss you, Mrs. Israel.

  7. Teresa and Family,
I’m so sorry to hear about your mom. I know your loss is great. Teresa, I asked for you today while I was in your office and learned of your sad news. Sorry to not see you today and especially under these circumstances. Please know you’re in my thoughts and prayers.

  8. I remember Shirley from the time we were kids at Leicester Elementary School, and I always liked her smile, friendliness and the twinkle in her eye. She laughed all the time. Over the years, she never lost those wonderful qualities. My condolences go out to the entire family at this sad time, but especially to the ones I know most – Teresa, Ann, Karen, and Kenneth. I pray that God has given you good memories that will comfort you.

  9. Lisa & Theresa You mom was a special lady. You was always smiling and had a special way of making you smile also. She did make the best biscuits and gravy. Loved coming and spending the night with you and waking up to your parents. They were so funny. God sure blessed you both with a wonderful family. I know you will miss her. Love you both and I am here if you need me.
