Steven (Doc) Zachary Haynes, of Lewisburg, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026.
Steven was born in Buncombe County, North Carolina, to Helen Ann Zachary Haynes Todd and the late Brian Steven Haynes.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Mary Ann Lee Haynes; his two daughters, Annie Elizabeth Haynes and Mary Katherine Haynes; his mother, Helen Ann Zachary Haynes Todd; his brother, Andy (Pamela) Haynes; and his step-sisters, Deborah Todd and Beverly Todd, his nieces, Haley (Alex) Combs, Summer Haynes, and Liza Shropshire. He is preceded in death by Brian Steven Haynes, Barnett Haynes, Jewell Galloway Haynes, Elmer Zachary, and Mabel Dockens Zachary.
Throughout his life, Steven was known for his deep sense of responsibility, commitment to community, and devotion to his family.
For much of his career, Steven worked as a building and codes officer for the City of Franklin, TN, a role that reflected his strong work ethic, attention to detail, and dedication to public service. He took pride in his profession and the integrity with which he carried out his work. In addition to his career, Steven was a devoted man of faith, serving as a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church of Lewisburg, Tennessee, where his congregation valued his leadership and steady presence.
Steven was actively involved in his community. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, the Marshall County High School Quarterback Club, and the Marshall County Whittling Club. He generously invested his time in the lives of young people, coaching multiple soccer and softball teams over the years. His dedication to coaching was rooted not only in a love of sports but in a desire to encourage, teach, and support the children he mentored.
Outside of his professional and community involvement, Steven had many interests that brought him joy. He was an avid NASCAR enthusiast, a lover of country music, and a lifelong student of history, often immersing himself in historical books and documentaries. He shared this love of learning with his daughters, creating memories centered around curiosity, music, and time spent together. His enthusiasm for knowledge and storytelling left a lasting impression on those closest to him.
Steven’s life was marked by devotion—to his work, his faith, and most importantly, his family.
His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched—as a father, coach, church leader, and friend. Steven will be remembered for his commitment to others, his love of history and music, and the pride he took in his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

My deepest condolences to Steve’s family, he was truly one of a kind. The first time I met him ( through my brother Steve) he gave me an extended, in depth history lesson on the music of Willie Nelson & proceeded to show me a picture in his wallet of him with Willie Nelson. I became instantly enamored with his wit, random facts & charisma. To those that had Steve as a friend, we were the lucky ones.
