Susan “Sandy” Hayes Walker, 60, of Asheville, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2025 at Mission Hospital.

Born January 4, 1965 in Shelby, NC, Susan was a daughter of the late Wilbur “Bud” Haile Hayes and Suzanne Gardner Hayes. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Wilbur “Rocky” Haile Hayes, III.

Surviving is her husband, John Christopher Walker; and brothers, James Gardner Hayes, Ralph Sumter Hayes and Jeffrey Howard Hayes.

A gathering for friends and family will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2025 at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in Sandy’s honor.

  9. Sandy there are not a pair of shoes big enough for someone to fill. I appreciated your wise words and guidance. Your sense of humor and laughter got me through some of the worst times personally ever. We laughed together, cried together and most of all shared some of our life difficulties. I loved hearing about your mini staycations favorite drinks and most of all how much you loved your husband. I will forever miss seeing you at self checkout.
