Tamera "Tami" Lynn Sawyer

tamera

June 13, 1963 ~ January 16, 2025

Born in: Asheville, North Carolina
Resided in: Asheville, North Carolina

Tamera “Tami” Sawyer passed away January 16th, 2025, at the age of 61. Tami’s radiant smile would light up any room she entered. She enjoyed going to the beach, spending time with her family and going out to eat.

Tami graduated from Clyde A. Erwin High School in 1981. She received a track scholarship from Appalachian State University where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Science in 1985. Her student teaching was completed at Sand Hill Elementary School.

Tami is survived by her mother, Betty Sawyer, and the late Jack A. Sawyer, Jr; sisters Rene Sawyer-Haigler and Lisa Sawyer; loving great aunts Judi Gentry, Pat Rice and Jean Ledford; nieces Lacey Bradley (Andre Hemphill) and Candace Bradley; great nephew Peri Tillman; and great nieces Jehdi Tillman and Caliyah Hemphill.

Our mother, Betty Sawyer, cared for our sister, Tami for many years. Our mother sacrificed her life so that Tami could receive excellent care. Over the years she was an advocate for Tami to receive all the benefits afforded to her. She did so without ever complaining.

Over the years, there have been many caregivers that cared for Tami. We would like to thank Denise Montgomery Pulley, Lacey Bradley and Cathy Lynn Evers.

We will come together on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 3:00 pm at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian to honor the memory of Tami and the life she lived. Pastor Shekinah Schwartz from The Church at Asheville will be officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home following the service.
