Texie Shirlene Smith Angel Hinshaw, 82, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Northside Hospital in Atlanta.

Mrs. Hinshaw was born in Buncombe County to the late James Columbus Smith and Adalene Honeycutt Smith. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Morris Angel and John Wayne Hinshaw and two brothers, Jack Albert and Roy James Smith.

Shirlene graduated Enka High School and then Rex Hospital School of Nursing. She worked for the VA Hospital in Asheville and the State of N.C. as a Registered Nurse. She was a member of Olive Grove Baptist at Northside and First Baptist Church of Atlanta.

She is survived by her three children, Mertis Angel Peters (John), Lloyd Angel (Irina), and Jason Smith Angel (Jennifer); three grandchildren, William, Jacob, and Avalon and one great granddaughter, Riley.

A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian in Arden. The family will gather with friends from 1:00 to 2:00 at the funeral home prior to the service. Due to Covid-19 Chapel services are limited to 50 people at this time. Burial will follow at Calvary Episcopal Churchyard in Fletcher.

  1. I have enjoyed being Ms. Hinshaw’s pharmacist for the past several years. I will greatly miss all of our talks. She was such a sweet lady who was always so thoughtful and kind to me and my staff. We send our love and prayers to the family during this time.
