Theodore 'Ted' Baker

Theodore “Ted” Baker, 76, of 353 Lower Grassy Branch Road, Asheville, died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, in an Asheville hospital.

Mr. Baker was born in Yancey County and was a son of the late Newton Vance and Phoebe Saylor Baker.  He was a Navy veteran of WW II and was a retired carpenter.  More recently he worked for Burgundy Farm Country Day School in Alexandria, VA.  In Asheville he was an active volunteer with the American Red Cross and the Asheville VA Medical Center.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy “Dot” Craver Baker;  two daughters, Paula Czarnowsky of Woodbridge, VA and Donna Baker Oliver of Black Mountain;  a son, Bob Baker of Atlanta;  a sister, Sally Fouts of High Point, a brother, George W. Baker of Leesburg, VA., and seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Dennis and Paul Baker, Kevin and Eric Czarnowsky, and Kelsey and Nathan Oliver.

Funeral services will be at 4:00 pm Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home.

His  family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Memorials may be made to the Scholarship Fund of Burgundy Farm Country Day School, 3700 Burgundy Drive, Alexandria, VA 22303.
