Thomas Fletcher Young

Mr. Young was born in
Arkansas and was a son of the late Dr. Thomas B. and Winifred Ann Shaw Young.  He was married to Arlene Pope Young who died in 1989.  He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Haskell Young and Dale Young.

He served in the Navy during both World War I and II and participated in the Normandy Landing as a Chief Pharmacist’s Mate.  He was a retired pharmacist and former owner of Young’s Drug Store in Leicester as well as drug stores in Blowing Rock and Oklahoma.  He was also a former Eckerd’s Manager.

He is survived by a nephew,Charles Young and his wife Laura, of
Fort Bragg, CA, and four grandnieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Ebb Jenkins Officiating. Entombment will be in Pisgah View Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Pallbearers will be Harry Grooms, Butch Oxner, Floyd Wise, Thomas Allison, Fred Cothran and Larry Brookshire.  Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Orville McAlpine, Dr. Claude Steen, Bob Terrell and Frank Young.

His family will receive friends from 3 - 5 pm Sunday at the funeral home and request that
memorials be made to Meals on Wheels, the West Asheville Baptist Church, or the Merrimon Avenue
Baptist Church Senior Adult Bible Group.
