Arden - Thomas S. Cheek, 55, of Poplar Drive, Arden, died Tuesday, February 8, 2000 in Cleveland, Ohio. A native of Raleigh, NC he was a son of the late Arthur Cheek and Margaret Bradburn Cheek. He was an Allstate Insurance agent for thirty years, operating the Cheek Insurance Group. He was a member of the French Broad Baptist Church, a 6 year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a member of the Biltmore Masonic Lodge #446. Mr. Cheek is survived by his wife, Sandy Hargis Cheek; daughter, Christine Cheek Gahagan and her husband Terry of Asheville and two brothers, Arthur Lee Cheek of Cape Coral, Fla. and William Wayne Cheek of Jacksonville, Fla. Services will be held at 2 pm Saturday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue conducted by the Rev. David Richardson. Interment will be in Calvary Episcopal Churchyard. Masonic graveside rites will be conducted by the Biltmore Masonic Lodge # 446. The lodge will open at 1 pm. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Patton Avenue. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Assn., 50 South French Broad Ave., Asheville, NC 28801 or to the Eliada Home for Children, 2 Compton Drive, Asheville, NC 28806.

    We were so sad to hear of Tommy’s death. I know he had been so sick and had so courageously fought to live.
    His birthday is in the same year and month as Ray’s.

    Mom and Dad said his funeral was such a blessing.

  8. Skip & I were privileged to know Tom for 16 years and have a lot of great memories of him we will cherish…He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

  9. He was a Beloved Brother, a friend. He was a great husband and father. He truly loved all and I know of no man who would call him an enemy. Our sympathies are with his wife Sandy and his daughter Christie. You were loved brother and I’ll truly miss you.

  10. i will always remember hanging out in the mountains when my sister and i would stay with the cheeks and get babysat. we always ate ice cream and played out in the cold. it was refreshing…these memories are very fond to me. ‘little kids shoot marbles where branches break the sun…into graceful shafts of light..i just want to be pure.’ jim carroll
