Topping "Tops" Anderson Bryan, 79, of Asheville, passed away Friday, July 24, 2015 at Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. A native of Asheville, she was a daughter of the late William Hubert and Mabel Topping Anderson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Gerald "Jerry" Edson Bryan, who passed in 2000, as well as two sisters, Martha Anderson Taylor and Elizabeth Anderson Bourne. Tops and Jerry lived in Stuart, FL from 1968-1986, where they owned and operated Bryan Realty. Tops received a Master's Degree in Education from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and taught at both Ashley Hall and Christ School. She was an active member of the Episcopal Church for many years and on the vestry at Calvary Episcopal Church. Other organizations she was involved in include the Junior League of Asheville, where she was a sustaining member, The Children's Welfare League and Daughters Of The King. She was very involved and held several volunteer leadership positions within the Deerfield community. Tops and Jerry were members of the Biltmore Forest Country Club. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Reid Bryan Davis-Ball and Mark of Charlotte, Kelley Bryan Husk and Jason of Hendersonville; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Topping Davisball, Madison Virginia Husk and Liam Anderson Husk as well as several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 with a service in the Deerfield Healthcare Chapel at 11:00 AM and another service in St. Giles Chapel at Deerfield at 2:00. PM with Father Lin Walton and Reverend Tonya Hill officiating both services. The family will briefly receive friends following both services. In lieu of flowers, the family graciously asks that you consider a memorial donation in Tops' memory to either the Deerfield Residency Fund, 1617 Hendersonville Road, Asheville, NC 28803 or to the Lake Logan Episcopal Center, 154 Suncrest Mill Road, Canton, NC 28716. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the entire staff at Deerfield as well as CarePartners Hospice. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.

  3. I am extremely blessed to have been able to work with Tops for about 5 years. Every day, even when I was grumpy, she greeted me with a smile & sweet & uplifting words. She always brightened my day with her smile. I’m thankful for all the wisdom I gained from her over those years. We shared stories, recipies, laughter, tears & Love! She was a lady of God, an awesome Mother and Grandmother & a true & faithful friend! I will forever treasure the time we spent together! She was truly a gift from God to me!!
