Vernie “Becky” Rhodes McConnell, 89, of 30 Mustaground Hill Road, Candler, died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at her home.
Mrs. McConnell was born in Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late Vance and Minerva McAbee Rhodes. She was also preceded in death by her husband, J.L. McConnell, who died in 1983, and by four brothers, Fred, Burgin, Clinton and Vaughn Rhodes.
She is survived by a daughter, Aldeva Bryan and her husband Doyce of Horse Shoe; one son Jim McConnell and his wife Carolyn of Candler; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 3:30 pm Sunday at Piney Mountain United Methodist Church, where she was an active member, with the Rev. Gerald T. Denham officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Her family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

I just wanted to say that I am thinking of you during this time, I thought the world of Mrs. Mcconnell and have precious memories of her when I would go visit her with my mama (linda) and my grandmother (Thelma). Our family will be praying for you.
