Vernon Wesley Loyd, Jr., 84, of Asheville, died Tuesday, April 18, 2017.
A native of Pattison, MS, he was a son of the late Vernon and Annie Norton Loyd. He was also preceded in death by sister Cecille Lutz and brothers Charles Ronald Loyd and William Gerry Loyd.
Mr. Loyd was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served in French Morocco and Korea. He worked as a mechanical engineer at BASF, and was a member of Emma United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Peggy Jean Smith Loyd; sons, Terry V. Loyd and Sanford "Sandy" W. Loyd; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sister, Elizabeth L. Lang.
Funeral services for Mr. Loyd will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. George Davis officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at the Western Carolina State Veteran's Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Dear Peggy, Terry and Sandy,
I would like to express my sincere regret for the loss of Vern. It was always a pleasure when our families visited with each other. Vern was such a big part of of the laughter and brought so much humor to our visits. I know his smile and sense of humor will be missed. My prayers are with you all
