Asheville, NC - Viola Elizabeth Houser Stokes, 91, of 57 Inglewood Road, Asheville, died Sunday, September 22, 2002, at her home. Mrs. Stokes was born in Kings Mountain, NC and was a daughter of the late Marvin L. and Edna Rhyne Houser. She was married to William Pinkney Stokes, who died in 1984. Mrs. Stokes lived in Ruffin most of her life. She moved to Asheville in 1990. She was a graduate of Appalachian State University and taught for 25 years in the Rockingham County School System. She was a member of Arden Presbyterian Church. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Beth Bridges and Suzanne Reiss of Asheville; one son, Richard Houser Stokes of Raleigh; a sister, Edna Ruth Saunders of Kings Mountain; a brother, Marvin LeRhyne Houser of Goldsboro; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held 2 pm Wednesday at the Stokes Family Cemetery in Ruffin with the Rev. Mel Freeman officiating. Wilkerson Funeral Home in Reidsville is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

  2. I only knew Mrs. Stokes as I brought Meals On Wheels to her every Thursday, but I found her to be a very lovely lady. she will be missed. God Bless and Keep You in Your Sorrow.
