Virginia Marr Rice

Born in Sylva, NC on January 19, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Lily Walker Marr and the adopted daughter of the late L. Lee and Mattie Gibson Marr of Bryson City. Mrs Rice was preceded in death by her husband, C. Richard Rice who died in 1988 and a son, Walter Lee Rice  who died in 1998. She was a member of Cumberland Avenue Baptist Church.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Anne R. and Roger W. Tanner of Asheville; two granddaughters, Kay R. Edwards of Cincinnati, OH, Kathy R. Pulkownik of New Canaan, CT; six great-grandchildren and a special niece, Helen B. Hooper of Barboursville, VA.

Graveside services will be 11:00 am Monday at Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery in Asheville with the Reverend Ron Brown officiating. Her family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.
