Virginia Pressley Smith

Virginia Pressley Smith, 73, died Thursday, January 23, 2003, at Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross, GA, after an extended illness. Mrs. Smith was a native of Asheville and has resided in Waycross for the past 20 years. She was a homemaker and served a term as president of the American Legion in Rockwell, NC. She is the daughter of the late Olus H. and Viola O'Kelly Pressley and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Jo Smith and by two sisters, Lillian Crowder and Clara Debord. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Lattie Joe Smith of Waycross; mother of Diana McKinny of Sherrill Ford, NC, Michael Smith and Wanda Sue Walker of Waycross and Jerry Lee Smith of Concord, NC; grandmother of six grandchildren; great-grandmother of six great-grandchildren; a sister, Lorraine Ray of Asheville; a brother, Kenneth Pressley of California and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Tuesday at Piney Mountain United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charlie Sams officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
